Strawberry Moon 2021

Strawberry Moon 2021

TONIGHT, 24th June we will see – or not if you have overcast skies – the Strawberry Moon 2021! The strawberry moon gets its name from the fact that it’s the first full moon in June and it’s usually around the time when strawberries ripen and are ready to be picked. Who knew?

The Strawberry moon is also our last supermoon of the year, unfortunately, the moon is not, and won’t be pink for this event, but instead will be the golden/orangey colour it usually sports when we witness a supermoon in our skies, just above the horizon. A supermoon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to the earth.

This photograph was taken on my partners Samsung S21 Ultra phone. We always tease him as he always goes on about how good his zoom is on his phone, sometimes though that zoom comes in handy when you’ve got a particularly gorgeous moon outside that your iPhone wont do justice on capturing.

This photograph was in fact taken on the 23rd June 2021, the night before the Strawberry Moon is to make an appearance but that doesn’t take away the fact that it was a beautiful, big looking moon.

If you’re lucky enough to get clear skies tonight, wherever you are in the UK then please, take a photograph and post them in the comments for everyone to enjoy, I’d love to see how you get to experience the Strawberry Moon 2021.
